I learnt French in middle school where teaching was in English. My teacher created a keen and lasting interest for the French language, history, literature and culture. As there are not many courses in French in Hong Kong, the Alliance Française plays an indispensable role as much for the language as for cultural events. Thus for me, it is an honour to support the Alliance française as its President.
Created in 1953 it continues to grow. Alliance has 2 centres: Hong Kong Island (administration and classes, 11 class rooms) and the peninsula of Kowloon (4 class rooms and a media library). It is a very active and organised cultural centre which organises important events.
They have given a new dimension to my life. I daily follow the news seen from a French angle. That encourages a sense of comparison with different perspectives of English or Asian newspapers. I love travelling in France: gastronomy, French wines … Familiarity with the French language and culture has enabled fascinating meetings and the pleasure of several sincere and faithful friendships.
